Transplastomic, also: transplastome
Containing genetically modified plastid DNA
Plastids are small, self-contained units in the plant cell that have their own DNA and ribosomes. They are also able to produce proteins. If the DNA in the plastids is transformed using genetic methods, the resultant plants are referred to as transplastomic lines.
