Antibodies

Protein complexes that identify pathogens in the body

Antibodies are protein complexes playing a central role in the human body’s immune system. They recognise alien organic complexes and pathogens inside the body (antigens) and bind to them, thus initiating defense responses. Antibodies are made by white blood cells and can be found in the blood and in extra-cellular tissue fluid.
