Electroporation

Method for producing holes in biological membranes, used for transfecting living cells with DNA

Cell membranes can be momentarily perforated with an electric pulse. This allows foreign DNA to enter bacterial or mammalian cells, in some cases leading to high rates of transformation efficiency.
