Herbicide

Chemical used to manage weeds (wild and other competing plants).

Most herbicides applied in conventional agriculture are "selective": they only get rid of a certain type of plant. An appropriate combination of herbicides exists for every economic crop and every weed problem.

With the development of plants possessing transgene mediated herbicide tolerance, the wide-spectrum herbicides glufosinate and glyphosate can now be used for field crops. They are effective against all weeds, but spare genetically modified, herbicide resistant crops.
